Savage Garden

I've been listening to all their songs today... what an amazing collection of songs they have there. Now I've never cared for the ballads in the Truly Madly Deeply/I Knew I Loved You/Universe mold, but I can see them as being well accomplished. But stuff like Break Me Shake Me, Love Can Move You and - especially - To The Moon And Back is just astonishingly good electro pop. OK, so album two isn't quite as fresh or exciting (I have a promo somewhere which includes I Don't Care and it's surprising the difference it makes, shame it was removed), but it's still excellent stuff. Their debut is simply a masterclass in pop.

To The Moon And Back may be my favourite song ever.

I suppose that they're deeply unfashionable.

Have you heard the break me shake me remix Darren has performed on his last couple of tours? There's videos on youtube - its fucking fantastic!

Savage Garden are one of my fave acts ever. I've listened to them more than ever these past two years. 'Two beds' is my fave!

is it the one live at the max??

thats fucking fantastic, sounds like the bastard love child from the tension and the spark

I *heart* Savage Garden! What about Universe? Isn't that the most brilliant track ever? It's so romantic yet so sad 'cause you know that the romance ain't going to last... Or Lover After Me? That 'Oh, no, no... Oh, no,no...' part is so hearbreaking. Or I Don't Know You Anymore? I remember that when I was breaking up with my ex-boyf, I wrote a text message to him saying that there was another person in my life... That's why 'I didn't know him anymore...' *sad*

Universe isn't one of my faves but its still fab! The affirmation album is a stroke of musical genius! If 'Gunning down romance' wasn't on it, it wouldn't have a single duff track!

WHAAAT? Gunning Down The Romance is amazing! 'Love don't leave me-e-e...' That bit is genius! Shame on you, Darren. Shame on you...

Bah! Its the worst song on the whole album, fo shizzle!

I don't know you anymore has become my recent fave cos of my painful break up *sniff*

Bothered, I'm over it!

I want to live liiiiiike animals

Sorry to bump an old thread (I can't find any others on them?!) but they're doing reissues of their albums and there are some very nice things popping up in the run up to release. -Their Facebook page has daily commentary videos so it's making me hugely nostalgic.

Earlier this week, a previously unreleased Savage Garden track received its online premiere ahead of an upcoming reissue of the pop duo’s back catalogue.

Recorded in 1994, the stripped back, piano-driven ballad She was rediscovered whilst the masters of the band’s two studio albums – the self titled 1997 debut LP Savage Garden and 1999 follow up Affirmation – were being transferred to Universal for an Australian re-release which is scheduled for 12 June.

The song will now feature as a bonus track on a brand new career retrospective entitled Savage Garden: The Singles which will also include a bonus DVD presenting their international and rare Australian music videos. Meanwhile the reissues of the studio sets will also include extra discs featuring bonus remixes and live versions. Scroll down for the full track listings.

With over 29 million album sales to their name, Savage Garden remain one of Australia’s most successful pop exports, having scored two US Billboard Hot 100 chart-toppers (Truly Madly Deeply and I Knew I Loved You) and nine top forty UK singles. Since disbanding in 2001, lead singer Darren Hayes went on to release four solo records – the most recent being his 2011 set Secret Codes and Battleships.

Need to dig out their live DVD.

Did they not get along? I feel I may have read that somewhere, because Darren's solo stuff (albeit awesome) wasn't that different, so was never sure why else they might have split.

In that interview it says that when they split, Darren fully expected to do solo music with Daniel being his partner in songwriting. Daniel seems to have hated touring and performing, and simply wanted to step away from music. Neither have ever "dissed" the other so it doesn't seem like there is any bad blood.

You've just made me spend 20 quid on Amazon to mop up all the tracks I don't have on the international versions of their two main albums, well done!!!

OMG. I loved them at the time (especially during 2000-01 when I was living in Australia)

Some of the lyrics really landed with me.

Agree with @_Gru_ entirely - huge nostalgic feels! (and apart from the first album, I think Darren Hayes disappeared up his own bottom, musically!)

My brother use to play them all the time.

Hold Me and Crash And Burn are the ones for me.

Affirmation is a bit ‘hallmark greeting card’ but the line ‘I believe you can’t control or choose your sexuality’ touched me as a kid.
Me too, honestly it's amazing that a simple line of a song could make you feel less alone in the world.
