Savage Garden were an Australian pop group. They were formed when Daniel Jones held auditions for a new singer for his band Red Edge, and Darren Hayes (who was previously a kindergarten teacher) attended. They broke off from Red Edge soon after, and under Roadshow Music, they released their self-titled debut album in 1997. Their name is taken from The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice which Darren Hayes is a big fan of.

Hayes and Jones wrote and produced all their music. They enjoyed commercial success in their home country with 'I Want You', but their success went global on the back of 'Truly Madly Deeply'. They then went on to enjoy more success with their second album, Affirmation, which included their biggest hit in America, 'I Knew I Loved You'.

Savage Garden's career highlights include being part of Pavarotti And Friends 2000, a charity benefit for children in Cambodia and Tibet, where they performed alongside Luciano Pavarotti, Eurythmics, Aqua, George Michael, and many others. They also performed in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Their songs were featured on the soundtracks to Music From Another Room and The Other Sister.

Savage Garden announced their split in 2001 after a world tour. As of 2004 Savage Garden have sold in excess of 20 million albums and 15 million singles.

In 2002 lead singer Hayes, released his first solo single 'Insatiable', a love ballad. His first solo album Spin gained major success in the United Kingdom and Asia, though did not sell very well in comparison to his previous efforts in America.

Hayes has just completed his second solo album The Tension And The Spark, due for release in late 2004. The first single, Pop!ular, will be released on July 12, 2004.
